Moriones Festival

Since Lenten is coming, I am featuring this one of a kind event in the province of Marinduque. It is one of the most-attended festivals in the Philippines during Holy Week. “Moriones” refers to men and women in costumes and masks replicating the garb of biblical Roman soldiers. The celebration starts from Palm Sunday until Easter Sunday with various events along the week. The most awaited part of the festivity is “Via Crusis” held every Good Friday. Here, people are gathered to witness the very dramatic, and the heaviest scene ever portrayed by the masses, the “Passion of Christ”. It’s a bloody one and sometimes scary but eventually it’s enjoyable. This year, the Moriones Festival is set on March 20-27, 2016, if you want to see this marvelous celebration. Make sure to save the dates and plan your trip.
